Durable, durable turf

November 29th, 2009

Recently, the Green Bay Packers annouced they would donate the artifical turf from their practice field. Really? After years of use on the old Ray Nitschke Practice Field, this turf can be “recycled” and used for a local youth football program? That’s right. Artifical turf is durable, reliable and strong enough to take punishment from Green Bay’s offensive line and STILL provide a great, greeen option for kids. Congratulations to the Packers for their generosity. And kudos to artifical turf for it’s continued strength and reliability.

Greenbuild and Artificial Turf

November 17th, 2009

Last week, Phoenix hosted Greenbuild–a huge green building show. There were 1,100 exhibitors from all walk of life, including green artificial turf. The best news? Going green is not only good for the environment, it’s good for the economy. As Reuter’s discovered, the green movement is the highlight of a dismal building industry.

Artificial Turf can help you go green and give you more time to enjoy what really matters–your life.

IntelliTurf at the Green Show

October 28th, 2009

Last week, I had the opportunity to exhibit at the Park City Green Show. From wind power to non-toxic cleaners and green builders to waterless hot water tanks–the room was filled with interesting (and useful) products. IntelliTurf of Utah was among those products.

I visited with numerous local Park City residents that were looking for ways to decrease their carbon footprint. IntelliTurf’s synthetic turf was frequently an unexpected surprise to some of the visitors. The concept of saving water through artificial turf as grass lawn, a backyard putting green, in a play area or even on their parking strips, was a new and interesting idea. Not to mention that IntelliTurf requires no water, minimal maintenance and is pet friendly!

Thanks to all of you who came to visit. I look forward to working with you in the future!

The Ultimate Diet

October 22nd, 2009

Earlier this year, Reuter’s released a study discussing the ever-growing epidemic of obesity in America. We have become less & less active and more & more unhealthy. If you are like me, it’s easy to let days slide by and make excuses to exercise tomorrow. It doesn’t seem as convenient after a long day at work, to go to the gym.

So, let’s get outdoors. Whether you hike, bike or walk, the great outdoors clears your mind as well as increasing your heart rate. But what about convenience? That’s where I come in…synthetic turf can make the outdoors closer and more accessible for physical activity. Whether it’s in your yard, your school’s playground or your community park, artificial turf can increase your enjoyment of the great outdoors. It uses less water, looks great year round and is virtually maintenance free.

So get outside and enjoy some fresh air. Play a game of bocce ball, croquet or tag. Enjoy your kids, your family and your new healthier self.

Water conservation film competition

September 25th, 2009

Living in the West, I am always aware of the shortage of water that plagues our region. There are community groups, regional books, and local blogs all focused on helping us understand how we can reduce our water usage. All of these are great. But this week, I ran across a most interesting water conservation project: a film festival.

Who knew that we could build an entire film festival around this issue? These films are thought provoking, interesting and, yes, entertaining. The vast range in perspectives demonstrated by these unique filmmakers has given me a new appreciation for the immense challenge we face in saving one of our most precious natural resources.

Now, if only one of them would have mentioned IntelliTurf!

Making a backyard usable

August 9th, 2009

After constructing a new house, the decision is how to make the backyard usable for kids, dogs and the entire family. With a sloping yard and lots of shade from the surrounding evergreens, the owners considered multiple options. In the end, synthetic turf made the most sense. The owners are avid golfers so wanted to combine a putting surface along with artificial turf for a nice lawn area for the kids to enjoy.

The landscape design allowed for both a synthetic putting green (including four practice holes) as well as a lush artificial lawn for family enjoyment. “I don’t think we ever spent more than 15 minutes in the backyard until we installed the synthetic turf. Now we spend every possible moment in the backyard enjoying our putting green and lawn,” stated one owner.

Small Space. Big Solution.

July 30th, 2009

In Utah, we enjoy the four seasons every year. The summer bring the heat and sun, which we all love. However, there are landscaping challenges including lack of water, extreme heat and cold as well as shaded areas. All of these make growing grass difficult.

Small, shaded area are very challenging for growing grass, and artificial turf is a great solution. Recently, an IntelliTurf of Utah client challenged us to create a fun, usable space, in a small and shaded area. I was up to the challenge and we designed a great small and narrow synthetic turf putting green for the client.

The quality of the IntelliTurf product allowed us to make great use of limited space. The synthetic putting green now provides the client with more outdoor, shaded space to escape the hot Utah summer sun.

A Grand Playarea!

June 21st, 2009

I am always impressed with the creativity of my clients. The visions that they have for their property and the uses of synthetic turf give me new ideas on a daily basis. This was true earlier this month when a client began discussing with me the vision she had for an artificial turf play area for her children. After several weeks of planning we began the installation of an amazing synthetic turf play area.

The play area included 100% recyclable artifical turf, a two-inch impact pad (which boasts a fall rating), a unique checker board section for added fun and plenty of open area for the mazing custom-build playground set (not shown). In the end, the play area project was completed on time and on budget…and is the envy of the neighborhood!

First Installation of 2009

May 22nd, 2009

As many of you know, I’ve been a little slow over the last few months. However, I am happy to say that IntelliTurf of Utah has installed its first artificial turf lawn of the 2009 season! The project was in Park City, Utah and was a pretty straightforward project. The location was steep, which made it difficult to water effectively. It was also a fairly well-shaded area & the owners have had difficulty getting lawn to grow in that area.

The owners now have a lush, green synthetic lawn that will last for years, allow them to decrease their water consumption and be the envy of their neighbors. Take a look at the property pictures below and give me your feedback!

Recycling-What else can you do?

May 19th, 2009

We all know how important recycling is today. We’re all used to recycling bottles, newspapers and plastics–but we should all begin to think outside of the traditional recycling box and look for new ways to recycle.

For example, looking for ways to use recycled products while also saving water or energy can strengthen your effortsIntelliTurf of Utah uses turf products that are 100% recyclable AND provide a lush, green grass that requires no water. This is ideal for some of the drier climates in Utah and throughout the west.

I recently found a very cool contest sponsored by National Geographic. It solicits videos from people showing what they are doing in their communities to conserve, recycle and go green. There are some really cool videos from all types of people in all types of communities.
